#LTHEChat 66 - the growth of the network

For a paper to be presented at #SocMedHE16 we recorded the growth of the #LTHEChat network over a 24 hour window.

  1. I am recording visualizations of the chat this evening for a #SocMedHE talk so may not actually be contributing much. #lthechat
  2. Interesting: I can’t update the TAGS spreadsheet because the Twitter rate limit has been exceeded! #LTHEChat
  3. Working again now … will tweet the visualisations at the end. #LTHEChat
  4. #LTHEChat network - at 20:30 pm. Twitter API wouldn’t work for about 10 minutes! https://t.co/F5KXpfPUmS

  5. @cpjobling Fascinating stuff! Thank you for creating and sharing these! #LTHEchat
  6. @cpjobling loving these evolving snapshots, we could make a time lapse vid with them! #remix #LTHEchat
  7. We don’t have @S_J_Lancaster to post his network visualisations tonight so I’ll be posting the ones we recorded for #SocMed16.
  8. @hopkinsdavid @cpjobling @WarwickLanguage you can playback a person's conversation but not the whole graph .. one day
  9. The #LTHEChat conversation doesn’t end at 9:00 pm! I’ll continue to sample and post over the next couple of hours and tomorrow morning.
  10. There were no new tweets to #LTHEChat 66 after 22:05. Here’s the final network visualisation: https://t.co/FToSA29LZV

  13. What does it all mean?

  14. An interesting aside on the value of the network graphs that developed after the last one was published. Thanks to @Tevesy for raising these questions.
  15. #LTHEchat @cpjobling @S_J_Lancaster genuine Q re network graphs: what r they showing other than 'thers lots of traffic'? R they just cool?  https://twitter.com/scottturneruon/status/793923371742457860
  16. @Trevesy @cpjobling they show who the hubs are, they people bringing others into the conversation. We can learn from their practice.
  17. 1] My point is that I dont like them as viz tools - they r often used as 'output' when they don't add clarity to the story the data tells  https://twitter.com/S_J_Lancaster/status/794138055821197312
  18. 2] e.g. to show key mavens in #LTHEchat a bar chart of people (x axis) total connections (y axis) is better. However, they r interesting...  https://twitter.com/S_J_Lancaster/status/794138055821197312
  19. 3] ...as tools to explore the data, which is what I wondered if you're all doing? Ive also learnt to keep an open mind to types of viz  https://twitter.com/S_J_Lancaster/status/794138055821197312
  20. 4] @S_J_Lancaster @cpjobling just not liking network graphs isn't good enough reason to trash talk them.
  21. @Trevesy @S_J_Lancaster we have the data too of course. In this case a simple visualisation of the growth as a measure of engagement ...
  22. And Finally

  23. The #LTHEChat network when auto updating turned off. Last tweet 4 Nov 2016 @ 10:52. https://t.co/2slzIpQaaV
