  14. My passion’s rehumanizing learning 1 activity at a time.. currently looking for the #NextBigThing that’ll see me into #retirement #lrnchat
  15. Tonight I am passionate about #lrnchat ! Our annual "Appy Hour" is always a good time.

  19. I am passionate about getting away from work early today so i can have a scotch and relax #lrnchat
  20. A0: I learned that our donkey will steal pineapple peels from the compost pile. #SweetTooth. #lrnchat
  21. @lrnchat Current project: creating a game-based course on Perimeter Security. Learners have to solve how terrorists were able to gain access to a substation and take out the electrical grid. #lrnchat
  22. A1) I learnt this week that far to many people leave things until the last minute and then wonder why it can't be done #lrnchat
  23. @Voced_au It's even sadder when this happens to people the fifth (or fiftieth) time. #lrnchat
  24. Q1) Does 1 category of Tool/App dominate your device/computer? Which and why? I.e social, organization, etc #lrnchat
  25. A1: Does "things I installed" count as a category? #lrnchat
  26. A0) I learned that I may come to regret not taking some time off this Christmas. #lrnchat
  27. Q0 I learned, again, the hard way, that you'd best tell people you care about them while they're still here #lrnchat
  28. #Lrnchat a0) Can't believe I'm home for #lrnchat - first time in two months!! Hello, friends!
  29. A1) Desktop - productivity tools. Mobile - productivity plus social, recreational, other practical apps (e.g. banking) #lrnchat
  30. #lrnchat A0 The other day a webinar I managed went live.. it had to do with suicide prevention. This was a resource  https://vimeo.com/175761640
  31. q1) device = communication and social media; computer = browser tabs. #lrnchat
  32. @lrnchat Q1 For a long time it was photo editing apps (mysketch, diptic, color splash), now see it's more social & travel/entertainment . Guess as I moved away from straight-up design work I needed less photo stuff #lrnchat
  33. #lrnchat A1 Aside from Twitter [fav #iOS app] I like ideation & prototype apps like #Plotagon #GreenScreen .. easy making ideas visible
  34. Q1 it's interesting that I have never been much on organizing/scheduling etc apps -- they seem to be so popular w my friends/peers #lrnchat
  35. A1: Tablet: Screen 1: pre-installed apps Screen 2: productivity/social Screen 3: games/entertainment #lrnchat
  36. Q2) What tools/apps have you moved away from? Why? #lrnchat
  37. #lrnchat A2 MS Office tools.. They’re on my #iOS devices but seldom opened. GoogleDocs rock.
  38. A1) News and information apps and alerts, and scheduling apps, but then again my life really is all about meetings #lrnchat
  39. A2) Have tried dozens of task management apps, always come back to the same simple app #lrnchat  https://twitter.com/lrnchat/status/944021491515092993
  40. RT @lrnchat Q2) What tools/apps have you moved away from? Why? #lrnchat
  41. Q2) Trying to shift away from Google+ - Like it but looking for something a little bit more index-ish #lrnchat
  42. A2) anything that causes double up or double handling and doesn't play well within our corporate environment #lrnchat
  43. Q2 Just realized I rarely use iTunes anymore. Hm. #lrnchat
  44. a2) I don't use the default photo editor on my phone anymore because IG's is better. #lrnchat
  45. #lrnchat I'm late tonight, trying to wrap up some awesome vlookups and pivottables
  46. Q3) What tools/apps have you used for reasons other than what they were designed for? Explain #lrnchat
  47. Do you have some favourite apps device/pc? New this year. Those you’ve abandoned. We want to know. #lrnchat  https://twitter.com/lrnchat/status/944023029880934400
  48. Q3) I’ve started using Twitter to collect and save resources I find via it. #Lrnchat
  49. @lrnchat #lrnchat I’m actually using the same apps as last year..
  50. Unrelated but I have to complain. Windows 10 took away the only productive feature: recent folders. Okay, back to apps and stuff. #lrnchat
  51. Q2) Yammer - At least the app. Since MS took over, 360 authentication has been a nightmare. I just check on desktop occasionally #lrnchat
  52. Q3) I have used pdf doc maker to read articles off line #lrnchat
  53. A2) Following this discussion, I realise I am not very app-adventurous. I tend to stick to what I have until I hear about something cool/useful #lrnchat
  54. RT @kelly_smith01 Q3) I have used pdf doc maker to read articles off line #lrnchat
  55. RT @kelly_smith01 Q3) I have used pdf doc maker to read articles off line #lrnchat
  56. RT @urbie RT @lrnchat: Q3) What tools/apps have you used for reasons other than what they were designed for? Explain #lrnchat
  57. Instagram has become a contest entry mechanism. But I never win. #Lrnchat
  58. #lrnchat A3 I don’t think so. What I love about the #iOS apps I use are they do a few things really well. So mostly I use ‘em as designed..
  59. Hello #lrnchat! Jeremy, L&D mgr @joann, checking in from Cleveland, OH USA. I’m on the fence about #TheLastJedi.
  60. @Tracy_Parish Is it weird that I have Instagram on my tablet, but I never use it? I have to surrender the tablet to my wife periodically so she can use Instagram. :-( #lrnchat
  61. @InaGuddle I remember early on that I used to go looking for new apps/games every Saturday morning... #lrnchat
  62. @InaGuddle I find myself better at saying "I wish there was an app for that" and then going to see if there IS one -- and there usually is #lrnchat
  63. #lrnchat A3b What I do different tho is many are marketed for K-12 use. #ThingLink #ExplainEverything #Kahoot I use to #make ideas visible
  64. Q4) What is the one tool/app you can't live without and why? #lrnchat
  65. A3) Trello. I built a whole 5-week onboarding curriculum in it. Very flexible to move things around add tag. #lrnchat
  66. A3) Evernote for taking pics of stuff I should buy for family members. Like a list, by just tagged pics #lrnchat
  67. @SimonBlairTrain I see you added Overdrive to the Google Doc -- I like it, too. Recently rediscovered our great little local branch library #lrnchat
  68. RT @lrnchat Q4) What is the one tool/app you can't live without and why? #lrnchat
  69. A4) Google Calendar - otherwise how will I know what city I'm supposed to go to? 🤔😳 #lrnchat  https://twitter.com/lrnchat/status/944025189221679105
  70. @JaneBozarth I just find the app store so crowded and full of crap. Then get annoyed when I download something and find it is not as advertised... #lrnchat
  71. @simmons_m I see you added OneNote to the Google Doc. I need to spend more time with that. Suspect I would use it if I knew more. #lrnchat
  72. @JaneBozarth I'm so glad @eGeeking recommended it to me. Our local library is tiny, and 30 minutes away. #lrnchat
  73. #lrnchat A4b I need to practice using it more.. but do you see the yellow highlight over the two coyotes in the #MavicPro video?
  74. A4) Twitter. And TripView - so I know when my train to/from work is due #lrnchat
  75. @InaGuddle Yeah you know the early days weren't so bad for that. Now I do listen to what friends are using --- also why we do this Appy Hour chat every year! #lrnchat
  76. A4) Instagram - I take a lot of pics and great way to also post to FB and Twitter simultaneously #lrnchat
  77. I used something that is ancient but honestly, once you learn it. it's the best every day app: Total Commander. #lrnchat
  78. #lrnchat A4c I seriously love how the #iOS apps constrained features make me stretch..
  79. A4) angry Birds Friends - helps me relax in the evening. #lrnchat
  80. a4) IG keeps me pretty entertained, but the G-suite keeps me productive. #lrnchat
  81. #lrnchat A4x The cool thing about the video is I did it in the field on my #iPad minutes after shooting it with my drone. No PC required..
  82. Q4 TripIt. Essential for trip planning, easy build itinerary, flight notifications/gate changes, etc. Added it to the google doc #lrnchat
  83. @lrnchat A4 - slack Helps me organize client communication. Followed by Google docs and OneNote #lrnchat
  84. Q5) How is a productivity tool/app different from a learning tool? #lrnchat
  85. RT @lrnchat Arriving late to #lrnchat? Check out the takeaway we're building tonight in our annual Appy Hour.  http://qub.me/
  86. RT @lrnchat Q5) How is a productivity tool/app different from a learning tool? #lrnchat
  87. @JaneBozarth I'd love to have something like that. Unfortunately, when I travel I have to use the company booking tool, which is ... user-hostile. #lrnchat
  88. A3 - ok, I admit that I have used MailChimp’s WYSIWYG html editor to create emails, but then I send them from my work email account. 😣 What can i say - we use GMail and I don’t have many native formatting options. #lrnchat
  89. @lrnchat A4: We can't live with @SlackHQ our team is all across the globe and we have to stay connected to succeed! #lrnchat #toolsforsucess #socialmediatips
  90. A5) Like a hammer is different from YouTube. #lrnchat
  91. A5). One I use to find things that interest me/want to know more about, the other helps me organize all those things. #lrnchat
  92. Thanks @simmons_m for info on Microsoft Lens. I didn't know about it. #lrnchat
  93. @mtoagency @lrnchat @SlackHQ I’ve been dying to try Slack but it has been blocked by literally every company I’ve worked for. #lrnchat
  94. Today friend needed to dummy up a book cover -- of course there are now a bunch of apps for that.... #lrnchat
  95. #lrnchat A5 Are they that different? A hammer can swat flies as well as pound nails. Apps can aid #improvisation..
  96. The other night at uke jam someone wanted sleigh bell sound and said, "There's probably an app for that." DOZENS, as it turned out #lrnchat
  97. A5) A lot of productivity apps can be used for learning/teaching. Maybe not designed for it, but by expanding its purpose. #lrnchat
  98. A5 - there doesn’t have to be a difference between productivity and learning apps; it’s all in the creative ways that they’re used. #lrnchat
  99. RT  https://twitter.com/urbie/status/944017893661982720  My passion’s rehumanizing learning 1 activity at a time.. currently looking for the #NextBigThing that’ll see me into #retirement #lrnchat
  100. @JaneBozarth You'll be amazed by the quality of whiteboard images, and how well it captures slides during presentations. #lrnchat
  101. @JaneBozarth Yeah. I'm confident that any money the company saved on flights was less than the cost of the time it took to find them. #lrnchat
  102. Q6) What tools/apps do you use to help you learn, and why? How did you find them? #lrnchat
  103. RT @lrnchat Q6) What tools/apps do you use to help you learn, and why? How did you find them? #lrnchat
  104. #lrnchat A5u These are my #iPad #productivity apps. Office Lens and#PDFexoert are my heavy hitters. Saw tons o use at #Devlearn capturing slides https://t.co/4zW48tWX5g
#lrnchat A5u These are my #iPad #productivity apps. Office Lens and#PDFexoert are my heavy hitters. Saw tons o use at #Devlearn capturing slides pic.twitter.com/4zW48tWX5g
  105. A6) Twitter. Slack. Flipboard. Chrome. LinkedIn. iMessage. Phone. YouTube. Trial/error and peer recommendations. #lrnchat  https://twitter.com/lrnchat/status/944028496795521024
  106. A6) Twitter - Just have to follow the right people #lrnchat
  107. A6) Twitter. YouTube. Slack. I'm too old for Lynda videos. I need more action. #lrnchat
  108. Q6 Kindle app, podcasts app, snapguide, google #lrnchat
  109. a7) Memrise is great for language learning #lrnchat
  110. A6) Twitter (access to wisdom from my #PLN), various news apps (learn about world), YouTube (how to do stuff), iBooks (reading) #lrnchat
  111. A6: YouTube, Pinterest, Twitter, podcasts, Google. #lrnchat
  112. Q6) Nothing specific but anything that captures online content and saves it for future reference #lrnchat
  113. @lrnchat A6 - Twitter, podcasts, YouTube, Slack, the usual suspects.. #lrnchat
  114. #lrnchat A6b June I’m going to Camp Plug & Play  http://www.azk12.org/event/30359/details  .. I’m on the Making Task Cards Track. HMW repurpose for #elearning?
  115. A6) As an amateur photographer, I learn a lot on Instagram by following great photographers, Aperture, Photoshop, etc #lrnchat
  116. @JD_Dillon They just launched a Spanish podcast, it's great. #lrnchat
  117. A6) Ah yes Pinterest - I forgot to mention that - although it seems to focused on graphics (infographics) #lrnchat
  118. Q7) BONUS: Lightning Round. What's the worst/stupidest/most overhyped tool of 2017? Why? #lrnchat
  119. @kelly_smith01 It seems to depend greatly on your history. I see a lot of homesteading, humour, and kayaking pins. My wife seems homeschooling ones. #lrnchat
  120. RT @lrnchat Q7) BONUS: Lightning Round. What's the worst/stupidest/most overhyped tool of 2017? Why? #lrnchat
  121. q7) I guess I never got into IG stories - if they weren't a part of IG, I wouldn't care. #lrnchat
  122. #lrnchat A7 #elearning authoring tools.. a complaint i hear a lot from clients is how similar learning experiences are. Why might that be?
  123. A6 - my favorites are LinkedIn for interesting articles & blogs, Wikipedia for random facts & YouTube for how-to videos #lrnchat
  124. A7) That guy, Oleg, on Linkedin. When I don''t see his "feel good hiring": post every hour I start worrying about him. #lrnchat
  125. Q8) BONUS: Lightning Round. Any app not out there that you wish existed? #lrnchat
  126. A8- AR/VR. I’ve seen exactly one reasonable use case that actually made good use of the technology instead of just the gimmick. #lrnchat
  127. RT @lrnchat Q8) BONUS: Lightning Round. Any app not out there that you wish existed? #lrnchat
  128. #lrnchat A7b I’d love to be able t okay I use #xAPI. I still don’t get how it benefits learners. It was talked about at #TLDChat but ???
  129. Gotta run #lrnchat friends. Happy Festivus! See you in 2018!
  130. a8) A "deal" finder coupon that actually worked #lrnchat
  131. A8) An app that aggregates all messages sent to me so I don't have to care which app they came from #lrnchat
  132. @lrnchat A8 - an app that consolidates all my apps. Oh wait, that's my phone. Biggest frustration for me today, not being able to communicate across multiple apps when I want to. I need an umbrella app #lrnchat
  133. QWrap. It's that time again. Please re-introduce yourselves. Shameless plugs welcome #lrnchat
  134. RT @lrnchat QWrap. It's that time again. Please re-introduce yourselves. Shameless plugs welcome #lrnchat
  135. @urbie It's like how e-books and early web pages looked and acted a lot like books/papers. It's human nature to stick to the familiar. It takes longer to come up with the new. #lrnchat
  136. A8- ooooh! Great question! I’d love an app that could REALLY make it a seamless experience to move between devices - I like I want to copy a link on my phone and right click and be able to paste it on my laptop. We are getting close, but not quite there. #lrnchat
  137. Lots of truth in this.. Like how hard are our people working in the #elearning courses we develop? #lrnchat  https://twitter.com/wheeler_laura/status/943941839429672960
  138. Jeff Goldman - eLearning Guy in Baltimore. Thanks everyone for another fun #lrnchat
  139. #lrnchat's taking a holiday break next week -- see you next year, Thursday, January 4!
  140. RT @lrnchat #lrnchat's taking a holiday break next week -- see you next year, Thursday, January 4!
  141. @eLearninCyclops I was up your way last weekend for a wedding. Such a great town! #lrnchat
  142. Great to chat with you all, #lrnchat! Happy holidays from the CLE!
  143. @JaneBozarth I agree - Lots of great things happening in BMore. I'm glad you enjoyed it. #lrnchat
  144. Next time we have #lrnchat (Jan 4) I'll be working for the @eLearningGuild with @LnDDave , @eGeeking , @britz , et al
  145. @SimonBlairTrain How tough a sell would it be to include a task in #elearning.. share with a peer in the next cube to get critical feedback? #lrnchat
  146. Thanks everyone for joining #lrnchat tonight. HAPPY HOLIDAYS to you and your love ones. We'll be back January 4, 2018. See you next year.
  147. @rabbitoreg “I’m going to develop learning for my office workers that places them in a virtual office. But, like, with a window.” #lrnchat
  148. @urbie I love that idea! The challenge might be in getting the powers that be to agree that a peer is qualified to give feedback or to trust that it happened. #lrnchat
  149. @rabbitoreg In all seriousness, the one really intriguing use of VR in L&D that I saw was a proof of concept, from @Lowes I think, where people actually did basic home improvement projects (like replacing a lift switch) in VR so they knew what tools to buy & how to use them. #lrnchat
  150. @SimonBlairTrain I learned about it at an #ATD_VOS conference in ’13. If peers are learning the same things efficacy would be shared #lrnchat
  151. @SimonBlairTrain Or a supervisor then? It’d be better than the *structured* feedback sessions that happen now #lrnchat
  152. @urbie True. I once created a product info course where the final test was to do a mock sales call with your supervisor. Everybody loved it... until the supervisors started getting calls. Shortly after that, the new course owner changed it to a multiple choice test. :-( #lrnchat
  153. @rabbitoreg @Lowes I get it; for the most part, that’s how early adopters work. Once prices come down and the tech is more mainstream, we will seem increasing adoption and more interesting uses of it. #lrnchat
  154. @SimonBlairTrain @urbie Yep. I once designed a sales training curriculum with a similar assessment. The project sponsor loved the idea, but none of the other stakeholders would sign off on the assessment. The project withered away into development hell. #lrnchat
  155. @JeremyNegrey @urbie "Like" doesn't seem an appropriate response, but Twitter doesn't have a "sympathize" button. Everyone likes a better solution... until it means more work for them. #lrnchat
  156. @JD_Dillon I see Disney World - the first app that caught my attention! #lrnchat
  157. @lrnchat A2) Photoshop actually. It's online. New popular apps which are better for quick and limited edits that visual content needs. Plus older download content apps. Due to faster internet speeds and cloud storage for content. #lrnchat
  158. @lrnchat A3) None. Apps have focused usage and if you can use it for something, then it is a feature of the app. #lrnchat.
  159. @lrnchat A4) Notepad and Word. Browser as well. Use notepad all the time to jot ideas. Np page frames ensure a free flow of ideas. Comes closest to pen and paper. For word, as well, if I turn off the frame features but menu bar is bit heavy and have to turn it off too. #lrnchat
  160. @lrnchat A5) Productivity tool is more for storage or records or offline usage with focused collaboration usage. Online learning tools have limited features but are interactive. Offline learning tools have limited features. #lrnchat
  161. @lrnchat A6) Video-audio apps to watch course videos; listen to podcasts; Online learning tools such as course launchers can be useful. LMS is another learning tool though not easily available to all other than moodle. It combines productivity features as well. #lrnchat
  162. @lrnchat A8) Something with writing and doodling or photo editing; audio editing on same page instead of opening multiple apps. Like the limited features in Storyline, but easier to use. Not as cumbersome. #lrnchat 🤔
  163. @JD_Dillon Love Snapchat - best video editing tool on the go & "performance & presentation of self" too that creates a chronological record of your daily work & learning. It's a distinct social media genre & quite Goffmanesque #lrnchat
